May 2023 Prayer Letter

May 2023

The Kuwaa Mission invites you to pray this month for the ministries of the partners who work with us in our health initiatives. Many of you know that the most vivid symbol of the Kuwaa Mission’s health initiative is the Kondesu clinic. Although the Mission turned this clinic over to the Government of Liberia several years ago, the clinic still relies heavily on the Kuwaa Mission to help this remote community. Thanks to our prayer partners, we can make this happen. We are also grateful to other partners like Global Health Ministries (GHM), who ship medical supplies to medical facilities all over Liberia every year.

Recently, there was what we think of as a tragedy that occurred on the highway between Monrovia and Phebe Hospital. As they have done dozens of times before, GHM delivered a forty-foot container of medical supplies for distribution across the country in April. The container containing valuable healthcare materials for the Kondesu Clinic was loaded on a truck for delivery up country.

As the shipment of medical supplies made its way from Monrovia to Phebe, it had to climb a steep hill. It was getting dark. The truck faltered and had difficulty going up the hill; it ended up going off to the side of the road. Things were still okay until another truck from the opposite direction coming down the hill, hit the truck with the medical supplies. The vehicles burst into flames. The entire shipment of supplies for hospitals and medical clinics, including the Kondesu Clinic, was lost. It is a significant loss for the Kondesu Clinic. It was a huge loss for regional hospitals like Phebe and Curran Lutheran Hospitals.

While grieved by this loss, we are glad to report that no one on the truck containing our supplies was killed or injured. That is indeed good news. In addition, the report from our partners at Global Health Ministries is that this is the first time such a catastrophe has occurred in the history of their work in shipping medical supplies. They are so sad about the loss but have not lost heart. They are hard at work again, preparing for another shipment.

We give thanks in advance for what is coming.

(Please note: the pictures in this prayer letter are of the truck carrying our supplies.)

Prayer Petitions

God of Health and Healing, we give you thanks for the clinics and hospitals in Liberia and for the medical professionals who work to provide healthcare for God’s people in Liberia.

We thank you today for our partners, the people, and the institutions that work with us in the Kuwaa Mission to bring health and healing to the Kuwaa people. May you continue to bless those partners and encourage them with your Spirit.

In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
